Beyond Facebook, the adoption of metaverses will grow exponentially over the next few years in the market, according to a recent survey published by Gartner. The study suggests that one in four people worldwide will use some digital universe daily by 2026.

The Gartner report predicts an increase in the use of metaverses by the population, following the trend opened by Facebook in late 2021. The social network has changed its name to Meta and is developing its metaverse.

According to the survey, with 25% of the world’s population accessing metaverses in the next four years, this audience will spend at least an hour a day in the digital universe.

Gartner survey vice president Marty Resnick highlighted how metaverses are expected to integrate the digital and real worlds. In addition, the executive explains how digital universes will be used daily in the future.

“From participating in virtual classrooms to buying digital land and building virtual homes, these activities are currently taking place in separate environments. Eventually, they will occur in a single environment – the metaverse – with multiple destinations in technologies and experiences”.

While it is estimated that 25% of the population will access metaverses by 2026, the presence of businesses in the digital environment will be even more significant. Gartner points out that 30% of businesses will have their presence in the digital universe.

“Companies will have the ability to expand and enhance their business models in unprecedented ways, moving from a digital business to a metaverse business. By 2026, 30 percent of the world’s organizations will have metaverse-ready products and services”.

In addition to the increased adoption of metaverses for the next few years, Gartner’s research points out that cryptoassets will be responsible for monetizing this digital space. As such, digital currencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are expected to be part of the metaverse economy, the research highlights.
