The adoption of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment may even reach Airbnb. Recently, the company’s co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky posted a poll on Twitter about what new features the lodging site should announce for 2022.

With more than four thousand users responding to the poll on the social network, cryptoasset payments were the most acclaimed suggestion among all participants, leading a list of six items. In addition to digital currencies, the list brought other nominations from users who participated in the poll, such as:

– Simplified Price Display

– Loyalty program

– Clearer cleaning fees

– More long term stays and discounts

– Better customer service

The results of Brian Chesky’s poll were presented on January 4, 2022. According to the Airbnb CEO, the platform is already working to implement some of the suggestions made by users.

Although the adoption of digital currencies is not yet a reality at Airbnb, the platform has already published information about the crypto market during the company’s IPO in late 2020.

Speaking about the lodging site’s challenges, Chesky said Airbnb needs to adapt to emerging technologies and cited cryptoassets as one of those novelties.

“Our future success will also depend on our ability to adapt to emerging technologies such as tokenization, cryptocurrencies, new authentication technologies such as biometrics, distributed ledger and blockchain technologies, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and cloud technologies”.
