Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, besides Michael Saylor from Microstrategy and Changpeng Zhao from Binance have shown their support. In addition, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, NFL star Tom Brady, U.S. businessman Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Director of Communications, and even Brazilian politicians have also joined laser eyes filters in their photos on social media.

The meme, which appeared in early 2021, was used by bitcoin supporters and the hashtag #LaserRayUntil100k. Presumably, the intention is to demonstrate confidence in the leading cryptocurrency and express the view that its price will reach US$ 100,000.

Appreciation of bitcoin

The use of laser eyes in photos on social networks is linked to confidence in its valuation. When it appeared in February, bitcoin had jumped from around US$ 30,000 in January to over US$ 55,000. Shortly after (in April) it reached its historic high of US$ 65,000. Its origin is attributed to Chairforce (Twitter user name), who claims to have been the first to use the laser-eyed filter.

However, it was not he who first published the hashtag, but GregZaj, marketing director of the Strike app, on February 16 this year.

Today, despite the volatility, laser eyes have resurfaced among bitcoin enthusiasts, who continue to believe in the cryptocurrency’s potential. For them, when it reaches US$ 100,000, the hashtag to accompany the meme will be: #LaserEyesUntilFiatDies
