Developers at the Solana network are working on a new smartphone for the market. Called Saga, the device will use the Android system and have Web 3.0-oriented configurations.

Solana Labs recently announced the Saga phone on Twitter. According to the platform, the device will focus on decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The screen of the Saga smartphone will be 16.7 centimeters with a memory of 512 G. Furthermore, according to the project, the device will have compatibility with the 5G internet network.

As Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said, there is a large market for the cell phone, as there are 100 million crypto assets investors worldwide.

Solana says that Saga will be Web 3.0 oriented in a blog statement. In addition, the smartphone will also have features geared towards crypto payments, with transactions being completed through the phone itself.

“The opportunity right now is to build features and experiences that take advantage of a smoother ability to do web3 transactions on mobile, to carry digital assets around anywhere  and an ability to tie mobile payments capabilities to web3 payments rails to eliminate intermediaries.”

Like the Android and iOS systems, Saga will have its decentralized app store. That way, mobile will be available in the first quarter of 2022.

Until then, those interested in Saga will be able to make a pre-order reservation for the device. To do so, they will have to pay US$100, but the smartphone will cost US$1,000.

Solana has also set up an investment fund for decentralized application developers. The idea is to attract new developers to the Saga system.
